The VASSAL project successfully hosted a three-day workshop in Vienna from January 22–24, 2025, bringing together leading researchers, university administrators, and innovation experts from TU Wien, CEA, and BUT. The event fostered dynamic discussions on institutional development, scientific collaboration, and research innovation. A sense of shared purpose pushed discussions on cutting-edge scientific advancements or the evolving role of universities in shaping global innovation.
At the core of the workshop were the scientific sessions, where researchers from BUT, TU Wien, and CEA explored new frontiers in formal methods, verification, and digital humanism. Ideas were exchanged, challenges debated, and potential joint research initiatives took shape. These discussions weren't just about theories; they were about impact—how to turn research into real-world solutions.
A major focus of the event was a series of scientific workshops where experts explored state-of-the-art research areas, including:
Researchers Ezio Bartocci, Luca Di Stefano, Vojtěch Havlena, and Florian Zuleger led in-depth discussions, sharing expertise and brainstorming future joint research projects. These sessions laid the groundwork for new collaborations and research proposals within the VASSAL project framework.
Beyond the scientific dialogue, the workshop served as a space to strengthen institutional ties. Experts shared insights and best practices on university quality management, institutional development, research support services, research-industry partnerships, and the role of gender balance and ethics in science. Through dynamic debates and forward-thinking strategies, the participants worked towards a common goal: creating a more interconnected, innovative academic landscape.
This workshop was a crucial milestone in the VASSAL project, reinforcing cooperation between BUT, TU Wien, and CEA. The event not only strengthened research collaboration but also helped shape strategic project goals (SG2) and specific objectives (SO4 & SO5) outlined in Work Packages 4 and 2. The connections forged and ideas sparked in Vienna will serve as a foundation for future joint projects, collaborative research, and deeper institutional partnerships.
The VASSAL team extends special thanks to Florian Zuleger (TU Wien) for his invaluable role in organizing this event. We look forward to continued collaboration and the development of impactful joint research initiatives.
